Pops, Locks, and Nike Jams
After years of being held back by the available footwear, it looks like I will be able to fulfill my dreams of being a b-boy. For years, my pops and locks have been fraught and stopped, but now, thanks to Nike and the inclusion of breaking in the 2024 Paris Olympics, I finally have a use for the years of saved-up cardboard and bucket hats.
With Nike's all-new Nike Jam, the world will finally have its first official breakdancing shoe. The Nike Jam was developed over seven years in Nike's sports lab in their Beaverton, Oregon lab. Nike enlisted dancers, DJs, scientists, and designers to best understand the needs of breakers, ensuring they had maximum comfort and energy return by breaking down tape and analyzing the impact of the feet on the floor in an attempt to make sure the breakdancing is as smooth and tactile as possible.
Team USA will be wearing the sneakers this summer in Paris, but they are not just available for the Pros. You too can join the likes of Electric Boogaloo later this summer when the low and compact silhouette drops to the public in tan and black colorways. Built on a sizable gum sole and bearing a slight resemblance to the Nike Metcon, the Jam will be available to the public for $120. Hopefully, the shoes will be enough for the states to bring home the gold. They will certainly be enough for many middle-aged men to downrock their backs out of place and look good doing it!
