Big Al with the Chance for a Big Game
On June 28, 2007, the Atlanta Hawks selected Al Horford as the third overall pick, and the next day, Apple released the very first iPhone. I wanted to provide that context for just how long Al Horford has been a force in the league, and because it was truly a "holy shit" moment for me when I found out. Al Horford, now 38, has been a force for this Celtics team in the postseason following the Porzingis injury in game three of the first series. Tonight, he will likely be called upon again to provide the bulk of our front court duties, which is why I have a bet tonight I love. Al PRA. The current line is 18.5 (-115). That number has bounced between 18.5 and 19.5 all morning, making me think bookmakers are as baffled as the rest of us about Porzingis' status this evening. Fortunately for you all, my big ole brain broke down Al's numbers with and without KP, as well as what his playing time and role might be this evening.
Al Horford is likely to see more minutes tonight regardless of Porzingis' status. If KP can give it a go, good, great, but his playing time will be reduced. In the 16 games this postseason, Al is averaging 17.81 PRA with 9.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and just 2 assists. Tonight, Al will be asked to lean into his postseason strengths thus far: scoring and rebounding with a diminished KP or without him entirely. So, while Al is only over 18.5 PRA this postseason 6 out of 16 times he is over 1 out of 2 times in this series, and 2 out of 6 times on the road falling just 2 short both games in Miami. Al Horford is a big-time player who makes big-time plays, and the Celtics will need him tonight if they are going to be able to win in Dallas.I like Big Al to have a big game. Go Celts!
