Home Run Derby Bets
Well we have come to it. The official worst week of sports in the year. Although with the World Cup Semi matches keeping us afloat until we can get to The Open and the World Cup final this weekend it is not all bad.
Throw in the tweaked Home Run Derby Rules (outlined below) there should still be some worth while action. Here are our 3 favorite bets for tonights derby.
1) Home Runs Hit by Winner Over 29.5 (-125)
2) Total Home Runs Hit Over 119.5 (-110)
3) Kyle Schwarber (+310)
Rules
Format
First round
Eight players take 20 swings each.
If they homer on their 20th swing, they can continue swinging until they make an out.
Ties broken by longest home run distance.
Top four home run totals advance. Those four players are seeded 1-4 based on their homer totals.
Just so it's clear, if a player hits a home run on his 20th swing, he then earns what amounts to a 21st swing. And if he hits a home run on his 21st swing, he gets a 22nd swing. On and on he can go until he makes an out.
Second round
Head-to-head matchups based on seeding: No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3
Four players take 15 swings each.
If they homer on their 15th swing, they can continue swinging until they make an out.
Ties broken with three extra swings each.
The two winners of the head-to-head matchups advance to the final.
Finals
Two players take 15 swings each.
If they homer on their 15th swing, they can continue swinging until they make an out.
Ties broken with three extra swings each.
Weather
Tonight at Citizens Bank Park the weather will be mostly sunny and 79 degrees with a real feel of 71. Wind will be coming from the South West at 8 mph. Maybe not Perfect Dinger conditions but pretty good weather to hit some bombs.
1) Home Runs Hit by Winner Over 29.5 (-125)
Based on the new format the Winner of the Home Run Derby will be taking at least 60 swings. Meaning to have a winner here we need 50% homeruns. The format shift is a bit of an unknown but with players being able to sit on pitches and be able to find a swing or a groove. I like the over. And I like dingers.
2) Total Home Runs Hit Over 119.5 (-110)
This math is being mathed the same as bet one. There is a total of 160 pitches in round one, 60 pitches in round two. And, 30 in the final round (With the chance of Swing off not calculated) that 250 swings at least. I think the new format should lend it’s self to guys going yard about half the time. I recognize that this is mostly feel and does not have a heavy statistical backing. BUT I wanna see dingers.
3) Kyle Schwarber (+310)
Schwarber is the favorite in the field tonight so this is a bit of a chalk pick. But I am banking on the home town guy hitting home runs at the his home park. The bank.
Exciting for the new format and looking forward to some blasts tonight. Good luck and Positive vibes Only, Always.
