Total Takedown: Pacers at Celtics
Team Totals. It is a simple bet, one with historical data to leverage and an easy rooting interest to understand. Here, Cal TT will take you through the game of the day using wit, readily available information, and vibes. I cannot stress this enough. Data and vibes are the backbone of a team total pick.
Devastating loss last night for the T-Wolves and for Team Total Tails as we come up 0.5 short and fall to 9-6. It was a fun and frustrating game made up of runs, with the T-Wolves not showing up in the second half, only scoring 43 points compared to their 62 at the break. Dallas very much deserved to win the game, and I am a bit biased, but I feel like we deserved to win our total. But you can't always get what you want. However, if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need. Let's look at what the Celtics need tonight.
After surviving game one on the back of some regulation Jaylen heroics and Jayson's overtime dominance, the Celtics are 1-0 at home in the Eastern Conference Finals. If the two sweetest words in sports are "game seven," the scariest for a Celtics fan would have to be "game two." The Celtics this postseason have no-showed both of their second home games in the first two series. Tonight, their team total is set at 116.5 (already moved down from 117.5). But unlike the previous game twos they have already had their wake-up moment in the series; it happened in the last 10.8 seconds of game one, which is why I am not looking at the Celtics' team total tonight. Record scratch I am interested in the Pacers' total, which currently sits at 107.5.
The Pacers have eclipsed that number on the road 4 out of 7 times heading into this series and average 110 in postseason road games prior to Tuesday. What is notable about those three times that the visiting Pacers have been under 107 on the road is that they were all blowouts, losing by 15, 23, and 30. This is where the vibes meet the data and tell a story that I think is indicative of tonight's result. The Pacers came out on Tuesday and shocked the world, up 5 with less than a minute to play on the road, just two days after wrapping up a seven-game series, and they blew it. I cannot imagine a more devastating way to lose a game. I think they come out tonight a bit demoralized, while the Celtics come out like they lost game one and beat them big. There is always a chance the sleepy second-half Celts show up, but I firmly believe there is going to be a beating in the Garden tonight. Pacers Under 107.5
The Pick: Indiana Pacers Team Total Under 107.5 (-115)
The Record: 9-6
