Monday Night Lights

The Texans are just eight days removed from becoming the first team to lose a game despite forcing five turnovers. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are two weeks removed from losing their starting quarterback, who was overheard on the sidelines saying, “We f***ing suck!”—and just one week removed from suffering a divisional beatdown courtesy of the Eagles. So, which Texas team will get off the mat tonight in this standalone prime-time showdown? Let’s jump in.

Side: Texans -7 (-112)

The Dallas Cowboys have issues on both sides of the ball, and with coaching and with ownership. Meanwhile, the Texans are starting to get healthy. Despite losing a heartbreaker at home last week, they’re playing better than they’re being given credit for.

Houston entered the season with high expectations after overperforming last year. When healthy, they’ve largely met those expectations. However, due to early-season injuries, they’re flying under the radar—and that’s likely contributing to the relatively modest line here. Given how bad the Cowboys have looked, this line should probably be closer to ten.

I like Houston to bounce back tonight while Dallas continues its slide. Give me the Texans, laying seven on the road.

Total: Over 41 (-108)

The total tonight is set at 41, which is tricky to predict. As I mentioned, the Texans are in a perfect "get-right" spot, while Dallas is, frankly, terrible. Cooper Rush gets the start at quarterback for the Cowboys tonight, meaning there’s a chance Dallas might struggle to reach double digits on the scoreboard.

Historically, prime-time matchups have leaned toward the under this season. However, I think Houston puts up at least 34 points on their own tonight. That means the Cowboys would only need a single touchdown to hit the over. While the data trends suggest an under, I’m rolling with the over 41 tonight in Jerry’s World.

Prop: Dalton Schultz Anytime Touchdown (+260)

Dalton Schultz makes his return to Jerry’s World tonight, but this time as a Texan. I like new head coach DeMeco Ryans to scheme up something special for Schultz, helping him find the end zone against his former team.

Schultz has yet to score this season, so this is admittedly a bit of a long shot. That said, we’ve seen new coaches go out of their way to help a player “get their flowers” in revenge-game spots like this. At +260, I’m betting on Schultz to break his touchdown drought tonight.
